Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” As a child walking and playing in the woods, was definately a matter of trust. One of the adventures we would play on the many paths was reenacting the story lines from Tarzan. And not the cartoon series either. Good ole’ Johnny Weissmuller and his friend Jane. We even had a stuffed monkey called Cheetah. I remember vividly Tarzan swinging through the jungle on the vines. With his famous yell only Carol Burnett can imitate so well. In order to play Tarzan and Jane we had to have a swinging device. A huge tree in the backyard perched on the side of the hill was a perfect place for our rope. It gave us an amazing take off and landing pad at the top of the hill. My brother and his friends scaled the tree and tied the knot. Now right there is a lesson on trust! My teenage brother tieing a rope, on the tree limb I was going to swing on 20 feet in the air. An old tire tied to the other end made a great seat. I can still feel the breeze blowing through my hair.
I know your wondering where the trust comes in to play.
Would I have ever swung on that rope if I hadn’t trusted my brother? Probably not. I trusted that he would not let me do something that would cause me harm. I trusted that he cared about me enough to make sure I was safe.
How much more so does our Heavenly Father love us? Much more than a teenage brother loves his pesky little sister. As you trust in the Lord with all your heart, He will keep you from harm. As you trust in the Lord with all your heart, He will make sure you are safe.
So if you are contemplating a new adventure in your life, hang on to the rope and swing!
